About Our Club
The Orange Coast Lariats club is dedicated to enjoying, promoting and preserving the uniquely American art of Modern Western Square Dancing. We dance for the friendship, the challenge, the exercise … but most of all for the fun! We hold club dances on the second Friday each month, featuring many nationally known callers. We offer weekly classes from September to May to introduce beginners to our favorite dance form. Our class sessions also feature line dancing between the square dance tips. Steve Woodard and Sheri Bolton teach square and line dancing. Both Steve and Sheri are experienced at both leading and teaching their respective dances.
The Orange Coast Lariats square dance club was formed in May of 1998 by the merger of the Lariats and the Orange Coast Squares. The Orange Coast Squares were founded in 1981, while the Lariats dated back to October, 1957. The roots of our club go back almost sixty-three years!

Our monthly club dances, held every second Friday at the Garden Grove Woman’s Civic Club, feature square dancing, line dancing and round dancing. If you not familiar with round dancing, it is a partner dance, similar to ballroom dancing, but with a professional cuer directing the dancers to perform steps that they have learned in separate round dance classes. We have both local or nationally known callers entertaining at our club dances, while Judy Keller-Smith leads the line dances and round dances.
We think of square dancing as friendship in motion; many of our guests are already friends from previous dances. Any guests that have not danced with us before are new friends that we have yet to meet. But friendship doesn’t end when the music stops! We do many other things together: parties, dining, concerts and plays, camping and travel. We even have our own little quilting group within the club. So check us out, and we’d love to make another new friend.
